It is important to note that the therapist’s hands and their touch are vital components to any beauty treatment. Skincare houses also do a great job of creating products to suit all treatments and skin types but, there is a place for electrotherapy treatments. Nobody would say replace the hands by machines but by using a machine you can enhance treatments and offer something that the hands cannot do, therefore, offering your client a more results driven treatment. Something we all require these days.
For example, Microdermabrasion machines simply take the natural process of skin renewal, which slows as we age, and hasten it. Galvanic facial treatments allow products to pass through an unbroken skin using the current in combination with gels or ampoules that have been ionised. In this way, deeper penetration of products and enhanced results are achieved.
Treatments, such as those using Microcurrent, emphasise the importance of not only working on the skin itself but also the muscles underlying the facial tissues. When we get sagging untoned muscle we will get lines and loose crepey skin because the skin’s tissue is directly affected. By stimulating and exercising the muscles of the face a tightening, toning effect is produced which allows the contours of the face to be redefined. This is achieved using a machine. That said, as previously stated, all the above ‘electrical’ treatments may be effectively used in combination with the therapist’s hands and appropriate products in order to achieve the best possible results for the client.
In terms of return on the initial investment, if a combination Microdermabrasion and colour therapy unit were purchased for around £1400, each 1 hour treatment could be sold to the client for around £40, depending on the salon’s location. A course of 12 treatments could be charged at £480, so selling just three courses or 36 treatments would pay for the cost of the machine and take the therapist into profit.
